Tommy Lysaght is a Stone Carver, Facilitator and Educator. Working with various organisations, he brings his skills to collaborative projects where engagement and connection with people, heritage and culture is the focus.
Connection & Creativity
Tommy Lysaght brings stone carving expertise and knowledge of heritage into organisations and community education settings where he works with individuals who have suffered brain injuries, people engaged with the homeless services and teenagers who have had difficulty with traditional schooling.
Creating a safe space for creativity in this unique medium he facilitates classes and ongoing projects with groups working on collaborative pieces for the community and city, while also assisting participants in their own individual projects. Via creativity, the connection made between these groups and individuals with the community and city’s heritage and social fabric is the driving force of this work.
Sculpture & Installations
Tommy Lysaght works on commissions for public sculpture and installations, working closely with Cork City Council, local businesses and local organisations such as Cork Simon Community.
Tommy creates solo sculptures and smaller stone pieces such as bowls, accepting private commissions where clients bring exciting ideas worth setting in stone. Heritage, place, people, nature and stories are of particular interest to Tommy when starting a private commission or personal peice. The Aran Islands have been a place of particular significance for Tommy in terms of experiences and inspiration in his journey as a Stone Carver.
Workshops & Festivals
Tommy Lysaght runs stone carving weekend workshops teaching the fundamentals of stone carving to beginners and facilitating more experienced participants. Tommy assists each attendee in creating their own unique stone carving which they proudly bring home. All tools, materials and techniques are provided to allow people to work on a piece or simply experiment and learn. This experience has also been tailored for various festivals around Ireland.
Tommy also hosts heritage walks/talks where practical demonstrations and participation often feature.
